The diagnostic and modelling of the solar atmosphere through non-LTE radiative transfer: some results and prospects.
Abstract
The authors describe new results from non-LTE radiative transfer calculations for solar UV continua and line profiles. The new non-LTE codes include partial frequency redistribution in the lines, moving atmospheres with differential velocities, and can treat finite objects with external irradiation (loops, prominences). Selected examples are given for: (1) a static atmosphere (plage); (2) a moving atmosphere (waves); and (3) free standing slabs (prominences).
